YOUTH ENSEMBLE AT NATOMAS MUSIC SQUARE
Natomas Youth Ensemble is back with a new program. All great bands start out as “garage rockers,” and many go on to make profound music out of that raw sound. In this program, we will be exploring the music of groups and artists whose sound captures the joy and wildness of Rock and Roll. Our repertoire will include selections from Rock artists across the generations such as Them, The White Stripes, The Ramones, and others as well as the originators of the Rock and Roll style such as Chuck Berry. The program itself is structured as an opportunity to experience playing in a band, but with the guidance and supervision of an experienced musician and music instructor. Special emphasis will be placed on building the musicianship of each student, working in a collaborative social environment, and learning the stylistic, historical, and musical trademarks of “Rock and Roll.” Additional skills students will develop include:
- Instrumental technique
- Ear Training
- Reading/ interpreting lead sheets and chord charts
- Familiarity with the history of Rock and Roll
- Familiarity with the role of each instrument in a Rock band
Requirements: One year of study on an instrument or instructor permission. Co-enrollment in private lessons is highly recommended as students are required to practice and make progress outside of rehearsal time.
